Need help with your heating bills? Home Energy Assistance Programs can keep your family warm and worry-free – all winter long.

If you need more assistance, you may qualify for HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program). This is a federally funded program that helps low-income households meet their energy expenses.

HEAP is administered by the local Department of Social Services under the supervision of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). A seasonal program, HEAP usually opens in November and closes in the spring. Generally, all HEAP benefits are paid directly to the participating fuel provider.

Households must meet income requirements and all requested verification must be provided to the agency prior to benefits being guaranteed or issued.

For information and an application, contact your local Department of Social Services or visit http://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/
